garden pests insects
What insect is biting my wife and me in our home?

For 25 years my wife and I have experienced itchy inflamed bites at home during the months of late august, sept., oct. & nov. ONLY. We never felt the bites when they occurred. The itching and inflamation last 2 to 5 days. We have no pets. We do not garden or work out doors. We have inspected, vacuumed and sparyed every nook & cranny in our home. Washed all our clothes, etc. Most of the bites occur between our navel and knees (i.e: waistline area, buttocks, thighs), sometimes on upper arms and on a rare occasion on the top of my foot. We have never seen an insect in our home that bite humans. We live in Queens, New York. We have consulted with entimologists, dermatologists, pest control people, google, etc. The confusing issue for all of them was that these bites occurred ONLY during Aug – Nov. every year (Some years more some years less). Has anyone out there had similar experiences? Any answers for this 25 year long dilemma?

The only thing I can think of is chiggers. I’m not sure how, but you may pick them up from outside. Then again, living in New York, I’m not really sure. Do you have any sandy areas near you? Like a construction site or something. Sand fleas could be a problem and chiggers love sand and high grass, but you say you don’t go outside much. Even walking to and from the car could do it. Hmmmm…..I’m sorry, but that’s all I can think of.~
