A sunny spot against a brick wall with a southern exposure, for example, is warmer than its surroundings. In a space like this, plants that are resistant borderline have a better chance of survival than if planted elsewhere in the garden.
The existing tree canopy can protect plants by reducing their radiant heat loss. In winter, the microclimate under the tree may be several degrees warmer than the surrounding air, this slight difference in temperature can be beneficial to some plants.
Aware that the sun and shade in your garden is essential for proper plant placement and, in turn, the long-term health of your plants. Improperly placed plants are a major cause of unnecessary transplants.
Know your site conditions before start planning and planting can be the difference between success and disappointment. Properly planned gardens ensure the time you invest in you garden worthwhile, since each properly placed plant thrives.
Another task of gardening can be done during the winter is pruning trees and deciduous shrubs. During winter, while there are no leaves on the trees, you can see more clearly the branching structure of the plant. Prune branches that are criss crossed or who are growing into the trunk of the tree or shrub. Any branch pointing upwards in a weeping plant should also be removed.
